Nile 2010, an expedition of Scouts to the district of Jinja in Southern Uganda, has just happened during the school holidays of 2010. 27 Scouts, Explorers, Network and Leaders left Bournemouth for 5 weeks to build a vocational training centre with the Scouts of Jinja.
With the money raised we bought a hydra-form brick making machine which benefits the project on many different levels from the environment to providing a future income. The building had been started prior to our arrival allowing us to continue helping with the build; making and laying bricks, fitting windows, building the roof and laying 8 tons of concrete floor - all by hand! We had started the roof sheeting but time had run out. However, the building will be finished over the coming weeks by our Ugandan Scout friends.
During the time we were in Uganda, 9 of our Explorer Scouts completed their Explorer Belt with 8 Ugandan Scouts, hiking over 100 miles and carrying out local projects over the 10 days.
Please see our photos and very much hope everyone will continue to support the project as we look forward to the vocational school being filled with the sound of young people learning a trade for their future prosperity in Lubanyi and surrounding area in Jinja district.
