In Summer 2010, Team Nissan In Action, comprising Andrew Coogans, Ellis McNaughton and Iain Downie, will attempt to drive their old but (hopefully) reliable Nissan Serena people carrier from Ayrshire to Almaty, Kazakhstan, to raise money for charities in Central Asia.
The team is competing in the 2010 London Tashkent Rally, which despite its name doesn't visit either London or Tashkent! The rules are simple - drive a car costing around £100 to Central Asia with no backup or other en-route support and sell the car, with the proceeds going to a local charity.
The team's chosen charity is SWORDE-Teppa, based in Tajikistan, one of the poorest areas of the former Soviet Union. They are a small charity, using mostly local staff and volunteers for their development projects in this impoverished country. Their projects are in the fields of education, English teaching, malaria and vector control, vocational training, conservation, veterinary and agriculture. All projects fully involve the local community to ensure that they are correctly implemented and successful.
All donations made on this page will go to SWORDE-Teppa and assist them in developing these projects which are so important to the people of Tajikistan, so please click on the "Donate" button and dig deep.
For more information and updates on the team as they prepare for and depart on this amazing journey, please join the Nissan In Action group on facebook.
Thank you for your support.
Andrew, Ellis and Iain
