On the 23rd of September 2011, Banteay Srey District in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia experienced their first devastating flash flood with up to 3m of water.
7 Villages was badly hit by the flash flood, affecting most of the families.
157 families lost most of their belongings, food supply and crops.
These devastated families have lost absolutely everything – house and belongings – and most of them are currently camping under plastic covers… and the monsoon rain is still coming down…
The NKFC team immediately went to the affected area to provide basic assistance:
Our Health Care team delivered the after flood preventive education to all the population in the affected villages.
Our Water Policy Team with all the NKFC other Programme Officers went to help the families the best they could.
In addition, the NKFC dance school was under over 2 metres of water, of course all the music instruments were damaged and the rest of it. The children were perched on trees scared and even more when the snakes decided to take refuge there too!
The NKFC dance and music teachers had to be airlifted by helicopter. Now the water had receded but we have more rain, so we are caring for the most affected one first.
