Alzheimer Scotland is the leading, national dementia charity in Scotland. Our mission is to make sure nobody faces dementia alone. We provide advice, information and support and we are here for people living with dementia, their families and carers across Scotland.

Story

Thank you for visiting my page relating to the cycle ride I recently completed in aid of Alzheimer Scotland.

Alzheimer Scotland is the leading dementia organisation in Scotland.  As you may know my mother suffered from Alzehimer's disease for over 10 years, finally passing away on 30th December 2010 and I understand from a first hand perspective the problems and emotional stress caused by the disease.   I therefore appreciate all the help and support Alzheimer Scotland can offer both the sufferer and their carers as the disease progresses over the years.  Further information can be found on their website, www.alzscot.org.

To raise money for the charity, I recently cycled the length of Scotland along with my husband John which finally resulted in a total of some 550 miles on the bikes.  We started at the Mull of Galloway, Scotland's most southerly point, on Sunday 9th May, and travelled through Galloway, Ayrshire and Glasgow then up through Pitlochry and Aviemore to Inverness.  We then travelled across the Black Isle before moving north through Sutherland until reaching the north coast at Bettyhill, where we turned east cycling through Thurso, until reaching the finish point at Dunnet Head, Scotland's most northerly point, on Tuesday 18th May.

As a result of these endeavours I was originally aiming to raise £8500 (a total based on a provisional expected ride of 530 miles (or 850 km) ie £10/km or £16/mile - although the actual total cycled exceeded this by some 20 miles. However thanks to the amazing generosity families and friends, this total has been surpassed to the extent that over £10,000 will have been raised by the time all donations are in which is fantastic, particularly since this does not include the additional gift aid which we can claim. A great donation to send to Alzheimer Scotland.

I would also like to thank the following Companies who have generously offered support for this venture:                   Saltire Stables, Cupar,    Andrew Fairlie @ Gleneagles,    Cobra Building Supplies, Cupar,    Alexander Scott Structural Engineers, Auchterarder,    Kolorkey Printing, Dundee,    Rollo, Davidson, McFarlane, Cupar,    Law & Hamilton, Cuparmuir,    The Seafood Restaurants, St Andrews & St Monans,    Pagan Osborne, solicitors  and   Margaret Martin, Dental practice.

Everyone's donation no matter how small is very greatly appreciated.  (Please don't forget that if you are a UK taxpayer please tick the gift aid box so that the charity can reclaim tax on your donation from the government to boost the sum raised even further).

Thank you for visiting this page and for your interest in this venture.  Thank you also once again for your support on behalf of both myself and Alzeimer Scotland.
