As most of you already know, I have been and conquered Mt Kilimanjaro, my own personal Everest! It was an amazing and absolutely unforgettable experience. It was pushing my boundaries to the absolute limits. It was 8 days of no showers, pit toilets and constantly drawing on inner reserves of strength!
I came through. I didn't make it up to the very top of the crater at 5865m but I DID make it to Gilman's Point- the first summit on the mountain, at 5685m and just under 200m below the final summit. Any further would have been a suicide attempt for me unfortunately. However, I am very glad I made it that far despite my lungs, heart, legs, fingers and toes and my whole body kicking, screaming and encouraging me to turn back!!!!It wasn't easy, especially the 'ick' factor. I have never been so glad to see a power shower in my life after this trip. I will never take the normal luxuries in life for granted again. The memories of this challenge, the friends I made and all the absolutely inspirational people I met during my journey will stay with me for the rest of my life. Although I have raised a considerable amount of money thanks to everyone's generosity, I know that some of you were waiting for me to do the challenge before you make good on your pledge. It’s time to do so now!!!
