Please help us to raise our target of £25,000 for the RNLI Jersey lifeboat fund as we cycle 3,500 miles around the North Sea. This money is used to train and equip the volunteers of the RNLI Jersey lifeboat crew.
The North Sea coast route (NSCR) is world's longest signed international cycle route. It passes through no fewer than 7 countries covering a total of 3,500 miles around the North Sea coast.
This spring Matthew Gare and Tim Le Breuilly will complete this continuous cycle tour to raise money for the RNLI. Matthew lives in Jersey and works at Grainville school. In 2007 he cycled the 'Great Divide Mountain Bike Route'. The GDMBR is the longest mountain bike route in the world and crosses America from Canada, through the Rocky mountains to the border of Mexico. Tim Le Breuilly grew up in Jersey and is now working as a self employed artist in Scotland. He frequently cycles on some of Europe's best trails just outside his home city of Edinburgh. His interest in cycling has taken him to Colorado and the Fraser Valley and now extends into bike mechanics and wheel building.
The RNLI survives totally on the work of its volunteers and fundraising efforts - it receives no government grants.
For over 120 years a lifeboat has operated from St Helier, although during the Second World War it was not under the RNLI’s control. Crew members from St Helier station have been awarded nine Bronze Medals, seven Silver Medals and four Gold medals for Gallantry.
