Norman (Brigham) Young.  Ex-Submarina.

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. It Is with deep regret that I have had to cancell my trek to climb “Mount Kilimanjaro” in November 2008 due to medical reasons, my first problem was a heart attack earlier in the year but with medication was able to carry on, but now futher complications have set in causing loss of sleep & blood which are not conducive to climbing mountains I am told by the Hospital that it will take a few months to get back to normal & the trek is only weeks away. I feel that I have let the side down but it would be foolish to try to carry out this arduous climb.   All the money raised has gone to “SSAFA  Forces Help” I was paying all my own expenses (£3,000). so none of the money donated has been lost. Many people have asked why I don’t donate the money straight to “SSAFA Forces Help”. Under present circumstances perhaps this would have been the way to do it. My climbing a mountain is irrelevant our troops are doing it every day under very arduous conditions. Please donate to help SSAFA look after them and their families when they need help. Please visit the SSAFA web site: www.ssafa.org.uk

If You Care please Donate below. Enter your name with Pride to tell everyone who visits this site that YOU CARE.

This would have beeen the seventh trek that I have undertaken, raising over £15000. With the present level of conflict the need for extra funding has never been greater. To enable SSAFA carry on with its work to make life easier for our Servicemen/women who are facing imperceptible hardships to secure our way of life and the freedom that we take so much for granted. Our Veterans from conflicts past and present with their families are cared for by SSAFA. Veterans are not only the smart older men you see with rows of medals, but young men whose lives have been shattered by the trauma of war.

We must not forget the families who are left behind to wait and worry, longing for the safe return of their loved ones. SSAFA with over 7,000 volunteers spread throughout the UK, Europe, Cyprus and other remote parts of the world, can help them overcome some of the difficulties they may encounter, assisting them when in need.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: SSAFA Forces Help will receive your money faster and if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support.

I saw your story on the Across The Divide website and think you're an inspiration to us all and well deserving of sponsorship! Good luck! Donation by Rachel Sumner on 30/04/08
