About Norwood
Norwood is one of the UK’s leading children and family services charities.
Every year Norwood helps thousands of children and their families by providing vital, specialised care to the most vulnerable members of the community.
Formed in 1795, Norwood has evolved into a provider of a wide range of specialist services, delivered by over 1,000 staff and supported by 900 volunteers. These services cover five main areas:
- Ravenswood Village in Berkshire which includes three residential homes housing 22 children, 17 registered homes for 146 adults, day services, a hydrotherapy pool, coffee shops, stables, art and pottery workshops and a centre for computer-based learning.
- Residential and supported accommodation for adults with learning disabilities throughout North London; Lifeskills, training and preparing adults with learning disabilities for employment and day opportunities through recreation, leisure and holiday programmes.
- Special education services for pupils with complex and profound learning disabilities aged 11 – 19, including the Annie Lawson School at Ravenswood Village in Berkshire and a Special Education Outreach Service, Binoh.
- Fostering and adoption services placing children up to 18 years with secure and loving families in this country and abroad. Norwood's expertise within this field led to its appointment in 2001 to operate the government-funded Adoption Register for England and Wales.
- Children & family services including centres in Hendon, Redbridge and Hackney, equipped with soft and sensory play rooms, toy libraries, safe play areas, family assessment rooms, therapy rooms, resource libraries and adventure playgrounds; and a respite care centre in Finchley for children with learning disabilities and associated physical disabilities. The centres also house Unity, a recreational service for children with learning disabilities.
