Not qute around the world in 80 days, but we are sure that by the time we have finished it will feel like it!
In aid of CARE International UK, a team from Tarmac Quarry Materials South East Region have decided to undertake the 3 Peaks Challenge.
The challenge is an event that means the team will take on the most infamous UK mountain challenge: the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales in 24 hours!
We will begin in the Scottish Highlands on Saturday afternoon, where we will take on the mighty Ben Nevis (1,334m). Then it’s down to the Lake District for an early morning ascent of Scafell Pike (978m). The final mountain is Snowdon (1,085m) in North Wales, to be tackled on Sunday afternoon.
So it's time to meet the team:-
Mark Joel (2nd from right) - Mark is already set to be the star of the team having already climbed Snowdon earlier this year. Mark has volunteered to be Navigator so all eyes will be one him come the big event!
Steve Jones (4th from left)- The team's very own Mr Motivator! When the chips are down and someone is struggling, it is guaranteed that Steve will "lift" them in his own unique way!
Mark Wood (2nd from left) - Mark has already completed this challenge twice, and has a rather relaxed attitude toward training and preparation the night before the event - but this obviously pays off as last time he completed the challenge it was in 19.5 hours!
Kerry Pinkerton (3rd from right) - A woman on a mission! Kerry is determined to show everyone what she is made of, and that is not cigarettes and alcohol as rumour would suggest!
Tim Seabrook (3rd from left) - So far Tim has been the quiet one of the team and therefore, probably one to watch. TIm's quiet determination is what will probably see him and others through this event.
Gavin Silcock (front middle) - aka The Pocket Dynamo. Gavin professes to be a keen runner, often claiming on a Monday morning that he did an 8 mile run the day before. Completion of the challenge should be easy for him if that's the case.
Mark Swan (1st left) - One of our our much needed support team member. Mark has volunteered to be one of our drivers for the event (which is scaring us a little), ferrying us from point to point. Menus and planning for our meals between Ben Nevis and Snowdon are already underway.
Paul Burgess (1st right) - The other of our much needed support crew. We are all hoping that Paul will be driving whilst we are trying to catch 40 winks!!! He will no doubt make an excellent kitchen hand for Mark Swan's catering arrangements!
