My story

On april 8th, Chris Jonns, Gareth Hughes, James Sams and Peter McGarry will be running/snowshoeing/walking maybe even crawling the 2nd official North Pole marathon. Yes, that is not a mis-print there is actually a marathon of 26.2 miles at 90 latitude on 9 meters of ice in the company of polar bears (penguins live at the south pole) and not alot else.
Perhaps we're crazy, and despite injuries to most of the team, we now feel physically capable of completing the race and are prepared to go through whatever nature throws at us. A typical day at the Pole will include -25 degrees weather brought to around -40 with wind chill - potential snow drifts, ice floes breaking apart causing dangerous leads and the constant threat of Polar Bears!

The main reason that the 4 of us are putting ourselves through this madness is to find some really good looking norwegians to kidnap on our way back from the pole! In all seriousness we are attempting to raise as much money as possible for the following cancer charities, UK Cancer research and the Sloane Kettering Memorial foundation.

Team member Chris Jonns tragically lost his father Allan last year to this nasty disease and one of our good friend's sister Christina Prestia is currently fighting breast cancer and being treated by Sloan Kettering. Im sure each and everyone of us knows someone directly who has been affected by this terrible condition and we feel by giving back a bit we can all help in the funding of research to find a cure for a disease that is responsible for 1 in 3 deaths.

You can either donate on line at this website or the US version www.firstgiving.com/np2006, or just give the team cash!

To date, apart from this site and the US version, we have raised 2,346 pounds (www.justgiving.com/northpolemadness2005) plus 1,750 dollars (www.firstgiving.com/northpole))

Thanking you in advance - Chris, Gareth, James & Peter.  (aka Jonnsie, the Wizard, Samsie and Ted)

(Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.)
