Story
Just a quick update...The pub quiz on Friday was an amazing evening and we hope it was enjoyed by all those who were able to attend. The total alone from the evening was a staggering £1,254.31. Incredible. THANK YOU for all the support, it means so much to us both.
On the Sunday 4th November 2012 Matt Booth and Kirstin Hutton will bring together months of hard work and head off around New York in what promises to be a once in a lifetime adventure. Whilst the marathon route is sure to be a great sightseeing tour around an incredible city there is an underlining message to why a marathon above all distances is being run.
On the 21st April 2011 one families life was turned upside down, after weeks of doctors appointments, numerous tests and a visit to hospital the condition became apparent and it wasn’t an outcome anyone was expecting.
Kirstin’s step-father was diagnosed with bowel cancer - 4 weeks later he sadly lost an honourable and dignified fight with a incredibly invasive form of cancer.
No one should ever have to go through the uncertainty we did in those few weeks and no one should have to deal with the reality that there is very little medical support avalaible for someone you care so much about. Above all else, no one should have to deal with losing a loved one when it's not their time.
There is no doubt that the motivation behind completing the marathon has been amplified by the events of 2011. Willie knew I had a desire to run a marathon - however I don’t think he believed I would ever complete one. With the support of Matt, my amazing family and incredibly supportive friends we WILL complete the course in a respectable time.
We aim to raise £2,000 and although the fundraising page you find yourself on right now says we're fundraising for Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust Charitable Fund we intend on splitting the money equally between Bowel Cancer UK and The NHS Trust Fund (specifically the Macmillan Dales Unit) in an effort to improve the lives of as many people as possible.
