Friends,

After 2 days of cycling, running and kayaking we finally completed the Offa's Dyke Challenge!

Day 1
After sleeping in a car park on Thursday night we left Prestatyn on our bikes at 6am for the first stage.  After a few wrong turns we ascended the first hill / mountain and the challenge really started.

We covered 100 miles on day one - 80 miles on the bike and 20 miles on foot.  I say 'on foot' as climbing the hills of North Wales was very tough and made me wonder why Offa had bothered with his Dyke when the terrain was this hilly.  Any cross-border raiding party should have been praised for their persistence, before being ceremonially dealt with!  The day finished with a 41 mile ride into Knighton to finish just before 8pm....we are only half way....

Day 2
Another 6am start and a really good ride into Hay on Wye that was spoiled by a sheer 3 mile climb straight up to Hay Bluff.  From there a 17 mile ridge run (should have been 16 but we got lost again...which is quite a feat on a mountain with only one path!).  We then jumped in the kayaks for our charge downstream.  When I say charge it was more of a meander as the Wye was like a mill pond with no current to help at all.  We spent 4 hours going through the beautiful Wye Valley and then jumped back on the bikes for 15 miles followed by the last run of 8 miles...

With the sun setting we turned the corner to start the final climb and had the best sight in the world....all our families waiting for us at the top of the cliffs.  All of these 2 days will stay with me, but running up that final hill together towards our loved ones will always be extra special.....so, at 8.30pm on the 2nd July, after 28 hours and 180 miles on the roads, rivers and hills of Offa's Dyke we made it to the end.

Five people did the whole trip - Matt, Brendon, JJ and me did the leg work but my dad was helping us all the way (although he could have made the Wye run a little faster!)  Without any of these guys the challenge would not have been possible.  The same is true for all our families who have been a brilliant support and all the people who have sponsored us and raised awareness of the great work St Anne's Hospice do.

We are going to fund St Anne's to get new syringe drivers so patients can self-medicate.  These are £1,500 each, so every penny we get will go directly to help them.

All that is left for me to say is thank you all very much and there is still time to sponsor us at

If you want to see some of our adventure and wonder at how I am the only one who looks remotely knackered, even at the end please go to
and type in Offa's Dyke Challenge

Keep Moving Forward.....

Peace and love
Brendon, JJ, Matt and Jon
