WE HAVE A DATE - The walk is going to begin during the early hours of the 24th of April
The plan is simple...
Taking part Jonathan Swift (aka me) - Opal 1 Birmingham
Mike Sutcliffe - Momentum Health Club
Unfortunately Motolani Odunewu - Opal 1&2 Leeds will not be able to make it as he is stranded in Africa
It is approximately 83 miles and, according to google maps, should take just under 30 hours for a fit and healthy individual to complete on foot (without breaks).
Unfortunately, as those of you who know me will already be aware, I am not a fit and healthy individual and it should therefore take somewhat longer for me to complete...and definitely WITH a few breaks. However, I am lucky enough to have a companion for the journey, Mike has agreed to complete the walk with me.
I would like to say a big thank you to all donation givers and also to Stableford Caravan Park in Staffordshire who have very kindly allowed us to use their site for free at the halfway point.
NOTICE: We are doing this event through the Opal Foundation who are currently doing their bit for Haiti. This is NOT an organised event...we have just decided to do it for ourselves so please do not ask how to join in...just sponsor us.
The reason...
On the 12th of January 2010, Haiti was struck by a massive earthquake, that and the 52 or so aftershocks that followed left a trail of devastation. The body count currently stands at around 170,000 and hundreds of thousands of survivors have been left homeless with little food and water, mourning the loss of family and friends.
PLEASE DIG DEEP AND GIVE WHAT YOU CAN FOR A VERY GOOD CAUSE
