Some of you will know that I volunteered with Over the Wall last year, a charity that gives severely ill children the chance to have a week’s away at a summer camp (away from home and free from parents!). The camps are designed to give children a break from their normal routine where they can just enjoy being themselves and try out new things. Over the Wall camps successfully create an atmosphere that is inclusive and accepting which gives the children an opportunity to share their experiences and relate to their peers without feeling embarrassed about their illnesses. I had an incredible time last year and would recommend volunteering to anybody - the children have such a passion for life and you come away with a clear realisation of what is important and how we should never take things such as good health for granted.
Over the Wall are celebrating their 10th birthday this year and I feel passionately that they should survive for many years into the future. Unfortunately, like many other charities, Over the Wall are suffering as a result of the current economic crisis so when I heard the Birmingham Half Marathon being advertised on the radio, I felt strongly that this was a perfect opportunity to help.
So on October 11th, I will be pounding the pavements for 13.1 miles and with your help I am hoping to raise £150 (or more!) for Over the Wall in the process.

Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
