‘Ralphy’ was
Radcliffe born and bred and was soon introduced to Radcliffe swimming club by his mother Freda. As he matured he became the goalkeeper for Radcliffe then the Northwest and British police teams.
He has played in many memorable water polo matches including a Gold medal in the World Police and fire games in 1999. One of his finest performances was in the final of the Police National Championships playing for the Northwest police against the Met. The team were 8-0 down at half time and after a serious chat at the end of the quarter the team went on to win the game 9-8, with ‘Ralphy’ pulling off a string of saves to keep his team in the game.
He was a friend to everyone and is sorely missed by those who knew him.
