We are the Nature Corridors for All team and we are going to raise money for special equipment for the Linklater Pavilion. You can read about it at www.railwaylandproject.org
We asked Hastings Direct if we could use Harry as our mascot. Ten of us will relay him over the 45 mile journey. We will start at the Balcombe viaduct in Sussex on 10th June and will finish at the Mesnieres chateaux in Normandie on 14th June.
Our journey will include a short boat section on the river Ouse and the use of 3 electrically powered tandem bicycles along the Bethune valley.
Some of us might only manage less than a mile while others can do a lot more.
Here is what each of us thinks about the project.....
Alec: I've got so much out of this project over 5 years and the Pavilion would let us do so much more.
Andy has been a quiet member of the group but has always shown willing to take part in the activities. He has proven to be a great support to the team.
Brian: I like walking and being outdoors. I would like to learn about changes in our countryside. We need our Pavilion so we can all learn more - that's why I am walking.
Bryan: I like walking and want to raise money for the Pavilion. It will help people learn about the birds and other animals and trees and plants.
Carole: I like working with the Ranger and doing fixed point photography. An all-weather Pavilion on site would let me learn and do more.
Dave: I like taking environmental photos and putting them in the database and to do this on site would be great.
Dawn: I like to be out in the fresh air. I've made some really good friends from being part of this team.
Jackie: I have really liked taking pictures and learning to use the camera. I have met a lot of interesting people who I would not have met if I was not involved in this project.
Kathy: This project has given me the opportunity to improve my photography skills. I've learned how to use a computer and I can now type really well. When the Pavilion is built, the equipment in it will let me carry on improving my skills.
Miles: I love walking and rode a bike along the Avenue Verte in France. I have always been a lover of wildlife and this project has let me build on my knowledge.
Rob: I've already raised £1,600 by walking for this project and really look forward to going in the electronically- powered wheelchair in France! Good things have happened to me on this project and I want it to continue.
'A lot of planning has gone into this walk and the commitment shown by the participants to the Railway Land Project over the last five years has been an inspiration to many of us. Please support them all the way! ' Dr John Parry, project leader.
