Story
On Sunday 18 June 2006 I did the Half IronmanUK 70.3 triathlon to raise money for everyman for Roger Hart.
This triathlon was a 1.2 mile open water swim in
Wimbleball
Lake in
Somerset , followed by a 56 mile bike ride through the scenic but mountainous lanes of
Exmoor , and then a half-marathon (13.1 miles). It was the hardest thing I have ever done. The swim was OK, the bike was very tough, but manageable (just!) and the run was dreadful - I walked up all the hills!
But I finished in 7 hours, 50 minutes and 10 seconds - coming third in my age group!
Roger is a keen cyclist who lives in Long Eaton with his partner, Sara. He is 34. For the last 4 years he is has fought recurring testicular cancer and has had 2 bouts of chemotherapy plus radiotherapy. Roger and Sara have faced this with great courage.
Fundraising for charity is not new to Roger. Before his illness he performed 'The Full Monty' several times for charity, and he completed a sprint triathlon for a children's charity. After his triathlon he made it clear he thought I was too old and too unfit to do one .... so it's all his fault!
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. There's still time to make a donation - for Roger and for everyman. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. If you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please make a donation now.
Many, many thanks for your support. Pat
