My story

Hi everyone,

Thanks for taking the time to visit my STAR (Student Action for Refugees) London Marathon fundraising page!

Heres a bit of information about why I chose to run the London Marathon for STAR:

I greatly enjoy running and I have run 3 Half Marathons in the past few years, as well as a few 10k races. I have been training hard for this race, with lots of demanding runs!

It's now just a FEW DAYS until the BIG DAY!! I ran 20 miles about 4 weeks ago, followed by a 24 miler the weekend after. I'm confident about the race... With a bit of luck and good energy on the day, I can complete it in around 4 hours.

STAR - who they are, and what they do!

STAR is the national network of student societies working to improve the lives of refugees in the UK by promoting positive images of refugees, volunteering for local refugee projects and campaigning.

Why STAR is important to me

STAR the charity has a special place in my heart, which is why I'm running for them. I was involved with my university's branch of STAR throughout my three years of being a university student. I had opportunities to volunteer with refugees and asylum seekers and through this process I found out about their stories and why they were here in the UK. Volunteering was a great opportunity to look behind the headlines of some newspapers and befriend and support some some seriously vulnerable people in the UK

What the money that you donate could go towards

Here’s a little guide to what your money can help provide:

£5 …spread positive information about refugees on campus by paying for photocopied leaflets
£20 …teach refugees English by paying for dictionaries for an English class
£60 …give a refugee student a place at STAR conference by funding their bursary
£100 …train and support a STAR student to help refugees for a whole year
£150 …give a voice to a refugee speaker by covering the costs of an event

Please support this good cause generously, I promise I’ll do my best to survive the race!!

Many thanks,

Patrick J
