North Pole Marathon · 27 February 2007

DEBRA is the national charity that supports individuals and families affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) – a painful genetic skin blistering condition which, in the worst cases, can be fatal. We fund pioneering research and provide care and support to individuals and families living with EB.

Story

The North Pole Marathon (www.npmarathon.com) is a unique challenge.  A group of us will fly up to the ice cap in April 2007, and run the 26.2 miles in extreme sub zero temperatures around a marked circuit.

After watching a television documentary about the work by DebRA, I was inspired to raise money to support their work into Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).  This is a very rare genetic condition in which the skin and internal body linings blister at the slightest knock or rub, causing painful, open wounds. It is likely to affect 1 in 17,000 live births and it is estimated that there are currently 5,000 people with the condition in the UK.

Running the North Pole Marathon is a totally bonkers thing to do, but this is a tremendous cause.  I hope you will feel able to sponsor me today to support the excellent work by DebRA.  Please note that all funds raised go to DebRA, and no deductions are made for the cost of the trip.

DebRA's website is at http://www.debra.org.uk/

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: DebRA will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!
