I decided to run for Diabetes UK because I know several people who are affected by the condition.

Taking on the Great North Run has been one of my biggest ever challenges, but it was great fun!

Any money that you can spare really will keep me going and of course make a difference to people with diabetes.

Here are a few facts about the condition:

In the UK, one person is diagnosed with diabetes every three minutes and three people die from its complications every hour.

2.6 million people currently have diabetes and a further 500,000 people have the condition but don't yet know it.

By 2025, it is estimated that there will be more than four million people with diabetes in the UK.

In 12 years, the number of children under 16 that have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes has risen from 0 to 2,000.

If someone's diabetes is not well managed, it can cause serious complications such as heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney disease, nerve damage and amputations.
