A Channel swimmer covers himself with grease once in his lifetime and it’s a bit of fun. But for an Ichthyosis sufferer, covering every inch of skin with grease is a daily chore.

Ichthyosis is a rare genetic skin condition. If thick greasy creams are not applied daily, the skin dries out leading to contractures so severe that they can break bones in tiny feet and hands, causing unimaginable pain. It’s an appalling condition, but few people know about it or understand it.

The Ichthyosis Support Group www.ichthyosis.org.uk needs to raise money to continue their excellent work funding research into a therapy for such a rare condition as well as providing the much needed support to those affected by ichthyosis through literature and educational conferences.

In September, Paul is leading a team of 5 swimmers in an attempt to cross the . Leaving in darkness, they will have to contend with the cold and dirty water, strong tides, changeable weather, waves and of course the boat traffic - the Channel is the busiest shipping lane in the world.

If you would like to sponsor Paul, and in so doing contribute directly the people suffering from this awful condition, please click on the link below. Both Paul and the Ichthyosis Support Group will be incredibly grateful.
