Yes, a combination of masochism and the urge to get fit have led me to sign up to the Reading Half Marathon on March 29, 2009. They will be sweating, bleeding and possibly even parting company with a toenail or two as I lumber my way around the 13.1-mile course.
Since this is all going to hurt so much, I've decided to use the opportunity to raise some money for a very good cause along the way... I'll be running for The League Trust, the fundraising arm of The League Against Cruel Sports, taking a stand against animal suffering in the name of sport around the world. It's hard to believe that practices such as snaring and bullfighting continue into the 21st century and the League is committed to ending them.
