I saw about a Bus that raised over 150K to advertise against God. I thought then that if there is that much money given to phylosophy, I bet there is ten times more for healing Children. I live in Maracay and am in the last year of medical school. The Pediatric and Neonatology wards and Emergency Rooms in our Central Hospital are a life-size Pulitzer Price Photograph of Need in and of itself. Newborn babies cram in a 5x5 mt room in mostly 20-year old rusty metal cribs. And this Hospital is the last referral center, meaning that there's nowhere else to referr to, so if more newborns come in, they will have to share a crib with another little one. But there is a limited amount of oxygen supply, so if the newcomer requires oxygen, that's it for him/her.

The hospitalization wards are no difference, moms have to climb flights of stairs to find a scale to weigh their children daily. Cribs and beds are old, rooms are shared by 4-5 children, the bathrooms are ... Geez. Fortunately these units are manned by the finest residents and Attending Physicians. But I don't have the money to make changes here, significant changes. I envision this being the prime children center in the country, if not in Latin America. Medical Care is free and I see children from different countries coming here for their medical needs. If only we had the environment and the resources. Other neonatology centers in the country, including Caracas have closed because of lack of such resources. These kids really need your spare change and more.
