PENHA, the Pastoral and Environmental Network in the Horn of Africa, was founded nearly 25 years ago. It is an African led and African inspired organisation. It aims to empower African pastoralists (animal herders) whose main livelihood comes from cattle, camels, goats and sheep. Pastoralists in the Horn are some of the poorest and least powerful people – and yet they and their animals are able to survive in very dry and arid areas.
