My story

In March, I, along with 20 other volunteers, went out to Cambodia with MAG and took part in their Community Challenge event.

The event saw us trekking for two days up and around Kulen Mountain, camping in the middle of the jungle next to a waterfall and taking in the sights of the magnificent Angkor Wat before we started on the building project.

For the next four days we travelled to a remote village (The Crocodile Village) in the Siem Reap Province to build two houses for families both affected by landmines.

The poverty, malnutrition and general quality of life for the families in our communities was staggering.  It's something we see on the TV on an almost daily basis, but it's detached and doesn't mean a great deal when we see it from the comfort of our sofa, in a cosy house.  Seeing it in real life was a real eye opener.  But, the thing that will stay with me is that even those these people have nothing, they are so happy.

It was a privilege to spend time in the communities with the inquisitive locals and sharing their life for a few days will stay with me forever.

Now for the money bit . . . I’m still a little short of my target and would be so grateful for whatever you can spare.  The money donated here goes such a long way, and not only pays for the two houses, toilets and wells in The Crocodile Village, but also enables MAG to continue their life-saving work throughout the world, wherever they are needed most.

So, thank you for visiting my fundraising page, and if you do decide to click the all important button at the top of the page and you’re a UK taxpayer, please click the ‘Gift Aid’ option and justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement is added to your donation and basically MAG get more money.
