On 25th April, I ran the Virgin London Marathon; the worlds largest fund raising event in 4 hours 38 minutes and 22 seconds.
I would like to thank everyone who sponsored me and for the support on the day. If you would still like to sponsor me, please do so so I can raise vital funds for Coeliac UK.
My better half Janet and her daughter Charlotte have been diagnosed with Coeliac Disease and this is the cause I ran for. For those of you who haven't heard of Coeliac Disease, it is not an allergy, it is an autoimmune disease caused by an intolerance to gluten; a protein found in wheat, barley and rye. Coeliac UK support people with the disease and help them to adjust to their new gluten free diet which must be followed for life else suffer possible osteoporosis or gut cancer.
To put this in some kind of perspective, it is a life-changing event. Foods and the things you really enjoy are suddenly off-limits. Just look at any jar, bottle, packet or box of food and search the ingredients. Invariably it will feature gluten in some form.
So far I have completed:
Virgin London Marathon !
Trimpell 20 Mile Road Race - Lancaster
Great North West Half Marathon - Blackpool
Central Lancashire Half Marathon - Catforth (Preston)
Great Langdale Christmas Pud 10K - Lake District
City of Salford 10K
Accrington 10K
BUPA Great Yorkshire Run - Sheffield
City of Manchester 10K
Greggs 5 Mile Run, Heaton Park, Manchester
I would really appreciate you sponsoring me; any amount. Coeliac UK works hard on many fronts and who knows, a non-toxic gluten or even a cure may be just over the horizon near that finishing line in London.
Pete
