Story
Well here I am again, asking you to sponsor me for the London Marathon. This is my third attempt and marks a very special year for the Brain and Spine Foundation. This is the 10th year that the Brain and Spine Foundation has taken part in this event and with the generous help of the Daily Telegraph, we have raised over £960, 000. We want to smash the million pound barrier but I can only do it with your help!
For those of you who don’t already know, the charity provides impartial, reliable information, advice and support to the carers and sufferers of neurological conditions and acquired brain injury.
What are these neurological conditions, I hear you ask, and why should I give my hard earned cash to this cause? Well, there are over 200 of them, including strokes and brain tumours, and as a consultant neurosurgeon, I know only too well the devastating effects they can have. More people die or are left severely disabled by neurological disorders than either heart disease or cancer.
In addition, head injury affects almost a million people a year in the UK, nearly half of whom are kids. One such victim was the boxer Michael Watson who, despite being left half paralysed, spending months in hospital and undergoing five operations and almost a year in a rehabilitation hospital, went on to walk the London Marathon in 2003. If he can do it, I have no excuse. So please sponsor me and help to support this very worthy cause!
Make sure you tick the giftaid box-the BSF get 28% more courtesy of the taxman!
Many thanks,
Peter
