I was first approached about the ride by Clive Noel, who has become a good friend of mine simply through selling him a bike at work. Clive, through several conversations found out that I used to race at a reasonably high standard in the UK and on the continent before I suffered some injuries that stopped me from racing. Although those injuries were over 15 years ago, I still enjoy riding my bike, on the road and off and get more enjoyment from coaching younger riders. The majority of "big" rides in recent years have been CHARITY rides. Previously to 2007, my total "charity cycling distance" for the year has been 7374 miles. Clive is a friend of John Hambly, the chairman of the Samson Centre based in Guildford.
