We need your help to raise £500 for TOFS - for the following reason.
Peter Mark was born at home on March 10th 2008 at 13.25pm, by wednesday March 12th we knew something was wrong as he was not feeding, he was blue tinged around the mouth and blowing bubbles from his mouth and nose.
He was looked at in Wigan A&E and when they tried to pass a tube into his stomach it became apparent that his oesephagus was not connected to his stomach.
We were transferred to St Marys in Manchester the following day by emergency ambulance, the surgical team were on standby.
Peter was examined and his condition was confirmed as tracheo-oesophageal fistula (TOF), oesophageal atresia (OA). A rare condition affecting around 1 in 3500 babies.
Basically, his oesephagus was not connected to his stomach.
He had life-saving surgery at four days old to disconnect part of his oesephagus from his windpipe and connect it to his stomach to allow him to feed.
He was on life-support for 3 days, finally at 10 days old, I was able to feed him myself.
Peter is now 2 years old and has had seven further procedures to strectch his oesophagus. He also has ongoing problems with his windpipe and damage to his lungs due to the high amount of chest infections he suffers with.
We would like to raise as much money as possible to help the TOFS charity who provide a lot of support to families like ours by quartely newsletter, support groups, conferences, buddy systems, an excellent online forum.
