National Braille Press helps blind children and adults achieve
self-sufficiency and independence by publishing practical information in
braille and by advocating for literacy—because the ability to read and
write, in braille or print, is the single most important gateway to
opportunity. As a nonprofit, we lose money on every book we distribute
because the cost of producing braille is approximately three times the
retail price we charge blind readers. Donations make all the difference.

| My personal message: |
On September 17, Team NBP will join hundreds of other runners and walkers in this event. All funds raised will go directly to support National Braille Press's advocacy and publishing operations, allowing us to spread the word about the importance of braille education and to publish more braille titles. Donating through this website is simple, fast, and completely secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution.
The captains for this, our team's first year, are:
BILL RAEDER, President of NBP. Bill will be walking in the event after returning from his adventures climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro this summer with renowned blind mountain climber Erik Weihenmayer. We figure that after climbing Africa's highest mountain (at a formidable 19,336 feet), the 5K walk should be easy for him. Totally blind, Bill leads an active life including cross-country and downhill skiing, and he looks forward to his ambitious climb and his Team With A Vision walk with his Kilimanjaro guide Jean Flannery. To learn more about Bills's climb, see his journal at www.nbp.org/ic/nbp/company/climb.html. Your support will encourage him in both of these ventures.
EILEEN CURRAN, Vice President for Education Services at NBP will be walking this year with her husband Jim, and their daughter Kayla, 2, and son Chris, 8. Eileen walks with the hope that some day every blind child will be literate and have the braille textbooks they need. Listen for Eileen's boisterious laugh from the start of the race to the finish. Also keep an eye out for a rumored "Braille Dance."
JUSTIN BYRON, also on staff at NBP, will be running the 5K this year after helping out with the planning and logistics last year. It's been 5 years now since he ran the Boston Marathon, so he looks forward to this run as a motivation to get back into running, and to raise awareness and funds for a great cause.
Interested in joining our fine team? Email Justin at jbyron@nbp.org to find out how. Walkers and runners of all levels are welcome.
If you can make it out to Boston's Artesani Park (1234 Soldiers Field Road) along the Charles, please come and cheer us on!
Thank for your donation, and please, forward this on to anyone you think might be interested!
