Postscript:

Thank you again for all your generosity, and the late sponsors, who have pushed us well over the target – it is greatly appreciated by Action on Addiction

Also thanks to Duncan and Krumo, who I ‘blame’ for getting me to do the run (and to those who supported me in the half marathon last year)

I finished the marathon J - special thanks to those on the course (and the encouraging texts): the support makes a huge difference. Unofficial finishers photo shown: on the left is Sarah, a family friend from Bristol who destroyed me in a training run on boxing day... she finished 408th placed woman in 3 hours 26. Respect!

I took 3 hours 49 minutes, nicely under 4 hours. I had hoped to go a bit faster, but conditions were very tough. Maybe next year…

Worried about the credit crunch?
Savings not what they used to be?
Lost your job?
Life and family torn apart by addiction????

In happier economic times, I agreed to run the London marathon on April 26th to raise money for Action on Addiction (see left)

Now I am unemployed, I hope you might help me to help others less fortunate than you and me...

Here's what Action on Addiction does :
 - develops new treatments to help drug users
 - reduces teenage vulnerability to addiction
 - provides residential and day-treatment
...and much, much more great work

Here's what I've been doing:
 - running round and round Hyde Park, in sun, rain and snow
 - changing running shoes/socks to get blisters in new parts of my feet

Here's all you need to do:
please click the SPONSOR ME NOW button above and donate
 - Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. Action on Addiction gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. Donors who are higher-rate taxpayers can claim the difference between the higher rate (40%) and the basic rate (20%) on the grossed up donation through their tax return.  You also know I won't spend the money on Lucozade Sport and Vaseline.

Anything you can give makes a big difference, and is greatly appreciated!

Many thanks!
Phil

For sports fans, gamblers or sadists interested in the form:
 - It's 26.2 miles
 - I have no addictions (other than running!)
 - usually around 70% of accepted entrants actually finish the distance
 - I have run a marathon before, 22 years ago; I took well over 4 hours...
 - ...on April 26th I am aiming to beat 4 hours
 - No recent times are available (I missed a month of training and practice half-marathon with a virus and an injury)...
 - ...but I completed a half-marathon last year (see pic), finishing just ahead of a man dressed as a banana
 - Look at
the state I was in then, and you'll realise I need your encouragement to run twice as far... please click and give!

Thank you
