My first wife, Pat, passed away at the age of 52, after suffering for a long time from severe emphysema brought on by alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency. Our two children have both been tested and have been found to have the same genetic abnormality which causes the deficiency, so I am keen to raise funding to help improve understanding of the condition .
