My story

Thank you for visiting my fund raising page.

In May this year I trekked the Inca Trial in Peru to the lost city of Machu Picchu for Macmillan Cancer Support. Macmillan are a fantastic and unique team of people who looked after my mum in her final months of life in 1996. They are the people everyone forgets at that tough time and they keep doing it day in day out to support, listen and well just have a good old cry but most importantly to me helped me keep my sense of humour at that bleak time. So this personal challenge was in memory of my mum and to say thank you to those great people who don’t want a medal, its just their job and they do it so well, and do deserve a medal.

I am also trekked in honour of a very dear friend who passed on the 12th of august 2008 at the age of 28 after a very short and tough battle with the disease god bless you Babs, you are missed. I must also not forget the many other people I know who have been affected by this disease, this is for YOU as well ;0)

(UP DATE 18th June 2009)

Well I am back from the lost city of the Inca's Machu Picchu and what a challenge it was, very tough but also very rewarding, the blood sweat and tears were worth it and meet some extraordinary people along the way to help remind me why I was there, though that thought was never far from my mind. The struggle with the altitude, the ascents and descents were a daily challenge but a reminder of the challenges people live with day in day out when they are affected by cancer. It was an honour to walk with so many great people and meet the local guides that were an entertainment and a pool of knowledge of their ancestry and natural history, they 10 days on the challenge will live in my memory for as long as I live. This adventure has given me a thirst for more, and over the next 6 and a half years I am to do more over seas and UK based challenges for Macmillan to hopefully raise a minimum of £20,000 in 2016 for my mums 20th anniversary.

(UP DATE 28th APRIL 2009)

To kick start my training I gave up the CIGS and it has been a whole year and not one has touched my lips, and to be honest it was quite easy (surprisingly) easier than the drink which i have stopped until the trail is done that's been nearly 3 weeks and my god it is HARD!!

So we are now many fund raising events down and I am overwhelmed by the generosity of people and also the stories many people have to tell of this life changing disease, when pledging and donating money. I have hit the Macmillan target of £3300 and now i have raised my personal target to £5000, today i am 4 weeks away from departing the UK for Peru and it would be great to pass the £4000 mark before i leave.  (time flies i have to say when you have an aim)

If you havent already please dig deep and sponsor me on line, and pass my details on to friends and family we all have our cancer stories to tell and at this difficult time every penny counts.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Macmillan Cancer Support will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.

Phil
