The Dull Stuff you can probably skip Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: British Heart Foundation will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
The Scary Stuff Heart Disease is Britains biggest killer. Every year about a quarter of a million peope in the UK have a heart attack. Nearly half that number will die. 50% of the people who have a heart attack will have another one within a year. A third of the UK population will die of a heart attack
Why am I running this marathon? I've always wanted to run a marathon but have succumbed to the all too often 'I'll do it next year' approach. However during a brief stint in hospital last year I made a vow to myself to lose some weight, get fitter and stop putting it off. So here I am a year on almost 20kgs lighter and fingers crossed with another 2 months training able to drag myself round the 26.2 miles. With a family history of heart disease and a strong likelihood of me suffering a coronary during training, I decided that the British Heart Foundation would be the ideal charity for me to hedge my bets with. Dad had a couple of heart attacks when I was a kid and its scary to think just how lucky he was and what would have happened if we hadnt had the full support of staff at St Barthlomews.
The NY marathon is the day before my 30th so please rather than buy me a drink just donate the price ogf a pint here. Cheers!
The clichés Every donation counts, no donation is too small. All accomodation and travel costs are totally self funded as I want your mney to go to the BHF not to my swanky manhattan penthouse (yeah right!) or business class flight. Knowing that you good people have sponsored me will give me the motivation required to pound the streets for the next 6 months and spur me on as I get overtaken by the geriatric asthmatic after the fourth mile. Please just donate 5 minutes of your time and if you can donate the price of a pint I will love you forever more.
Many many thanks for your support. I look forward to sharing a beer (or several) with you after this is all over!
Phil
