Picturehouse Cinemas have been raising money since 2008 to help Plan bring clean water to children and their families in Niger. Ten pence from every bottle of water bought at a Picturehouse Cinema goes towards providing boreholes to communities in the Dosso region of West Niger, one of the driest regions in the world.

Their cinemas, with staff and customers, also fundraise throughout the year, putting on special events to raise more funds. THE 11K PUSH: Picturehouse cinemas has successfully reached and surpassed their £11,000 target to complete their current project in the community of Bagouma Baba Fari. The project will provide drinking water and training to improve hygiene and sanitation for 310 community members and aims to improve the health of this community, reduce the spread of disease and increase the amount of time children and adults have to dedicate to their education and livelihoods. Over the August Bank Holiday weekend 2010, they raised an incredible £13,177. Excess funds raised over their £11k target went to support Plan’s Niger food crisis appeal and the cinemas are now directing funds towards their next borehole. Once funded, Picturehouse Cinemas will have raised nearly £100,000 to bring clean, running water to three communities and nearly 1,000 people living in Niger.
