My story

POST RACE UPDATE:

We did it!

We had a brilliant day with amazing support from the crowd along the way, but most importantly from all our friends and family who were there to cheer us on.

We were aiming to finish in under six hours, but amazingly we did it in only 5:13!!

Photos and a longer review of the race will be available soon on www.ashdowns.com.

THANK YOU everyone for all your support and encouragement.

lots of love,

Jane and Sophie

xoxo

------------------------

Hello friends.

My name is Jane Ashdown and I am running the London Marathon on April 23rd. 2006. As I am partially-sighted, my daughter Sophie is accompanying her ancient mother as my guide.  We are running for the registered charity Action for Blind People.

I will be dressed as a Pink Fairy for the race, and recently appeared on the front page of the Dorset Echo newspaper in my costume! As a slow runner, it will take me 6 hours to complete the marathon, due to my own sight problems. I do seem to bump into things and fall easily! However, I am determined to complete the marathon to aid those who cannot see at all.  Thankfully Sophie will be running with me to help me round the course, and together we hope to raise several thousand pounds for AFBP.

Action for Blind People has only ten runners representing them at the London Marathon, so that means Sophie and I are responsible for 20% of their total marathon fundraising target!  We do hope that you will support our worthy cause and pledge/donate generously.  Please come and cheer for us on marathon day, as well as enjoy yourselves!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Action for Blind People will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Thank you and bless you all.
