The Sucata Run is a bargain basement banger rally tour where teams of up to 4 people drive to 's most westerly point in 4 days, in bangers costing no more than £250. It takes place over the August 2010 bank holiday weekend (26th - 30th). The Run is done in aid of the charity Gemin-i, and 100% of the money raised will go directly to this cause.
The tour runs from , the stunning capital of , to Cabo de Roca, 's most westerly in point in . On the way it passes through La Rochelle, the most attractive and unspoilt seaside town of France, San Sebastian, the Spanish summer capital and the beautiful Salamanca, one of Spain's oldest university cities. The total length of the journey is a marathon 1200 miles, passing through diverse terrain ranging from the lush valley, to the harsh desert landscapes of and from quiet coastal roads to the crossing of the mountains!
Gemin-i is an educational charity that strives to provide learning resources for children around the world. They achieve this through the use of shared online resources and forums, allowing users to not only expand their knowledge but to debate with users on the other side of the world. This promotes greater knowledge, understanding and consequently greater respect for other people and their cultures. Their activities currently benefit over 60,000 children in 114 countries, helping to teach them about issues in the environment in which they live, including Malaria, human rights and conflict resolution. By educating children today, the aim is to try and stop the spread of the problems in the future by ensuring universal awareness and promoting action.
The money from this year's Sucata Run will go towards funding a huge AIDS/HIV awareness project entitled Global Action Xchange. This initiate aims to provide learning resources and tools to hundreds of schools across the world, helping them to join campaigns, take action and address governments on their commitment to deliver effective strategies to tackle HIV and AIDS.
For every £250 we raise, one more school in the developing world can be connected to this project. The more schools that are connected, the more awareness that can be raised on these issues and the greater the benefit to future generations. Many people in developed nations are fortunate enough to take their education for granted, while there are thousands of others in the world who never get these opportunities. By contributing to this cause you can help to provide to those who are less fortunate than ourselves, something that they would otherwise possibly never see, making a real difference to their future and quality of life.
