Hello

Thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page.

Just to let you know - I reached the summit point of Mount Kenya on the 23rd August 2009!!

Mount Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second highest in Africa (after Mount Kilimanjaro). The highest peaks of the mountain are Batian (5,199 m - 17,058 ft), Nelion (5,188 m - 17,022 ft) and Lenana (4,985 m - 16,355 ft). (We will be climbing upto Pt Lenana.) Mount Kenya is located in central Kenya, just south of the equator, around 150 km (95 miles) north-northeast of Nairobi.

This is my first challenging climb and I wish not only to succeed but also to raise as much money as possible for Sewa International. It is a fantastic charity that really helps those who are disadvantaged. I am climbing with my dad and older brother; Keshav (16 years old). These annual treks have become an icon for Charity Through Adventure.  Sewa International is dedicated in having negligible administration costs, so all the money you donate will go where it is needed most. None of the monies you donate will be used for any trekking expenses, which will be paid by each of the trekkers.

In order to give you a better idea of where the money will be going, I have the details of where the money went from the 2006 Kilimanjaro trek:

1) Water Aid Projects (Kenya) - construction of Bore-Wells in rural areas where people face extreme hardship for obtaining water. The areas are selected after obtaining geological reports and professional guidance so as to optimise the usage of the water. The village communities are trained to maintain the hand pumps and to ensure fair & sustainable water supply.
2) Food Aid Projects (Kenya) - preparation and distribution of emergency medical and food aid helping to protect the lives of those most vunerable - the children, elderly and sick.
3) Medical Aid (Mombasa) - eye operations were funded to help those that were visually impaired.
4) Education Aid Projects (Nairobi):Providing bursary to impoverished students in Jamhuri High School to help improve their chances of leading a successful life and help relieve themselves from their situation.
5) Social Welfare Projects:Funding was provided for acquisition of portable tractors to help yield better crops.

THESE NEXT FEW ARE PROBABLY MORE RELAVENT TO YOUR DONATION AS THEY ARE THE NEWEST PROJECTS

NEW PROJECTS FOR THE PHYSICALLY & MENTALLY CHALLANGED:
1) Mobility Aid Project:Help for the people who have lost limbs to gain mobility & independance:
- fitting of Jaipur Foot - specially designed prostethic limbs
- provide wheelchairs including some specially fitted to convert to mobile business stall to enable the user to be able to earn a living for themselves & their children.
- provide crutches, surgical shoes and polio shoes to assist mobility & reduce suffering.
2) Womens empowerment projects: provide sanitary towel packs and personal needs clothing to enable girls to continue attending school.
3) Food Aid - for Homes for orphans, senior citizens, mentally handicapped children - give financial support for the provision of meals at care homes for the needy
