Thanks for taking the time to stop by and check out my JustGiving page. Now I need to persuade you to give (generously!) ...
Earlier this year I helped out at a conference for a little-known charity called the Blind Business Association Charitable Trust (BBACT). This charity, that has just one part-time member of staff and a handful of trustees, is an inspiration. They exist to support blind and partially sighted people gain greater independence and get off of benefits by becoming self-employed and setting up in business. As someone who set up my own business just a couple of years ago, I fully appreciate the independence that self-employment brings, but also the difficulty of getting started in the first place.
So, BBACT does something that not only helps to improve the lives of individuals, but it also contributes to our economy and the wider good of society. Now there's a charity worth supporting in these tough economic times!
And so, I've continued my relationship with BBACT and as I was helping them find individuals to run the 2010 Virgin London Marathon, I paused to think 'I could do that'! And so, here I am, doing it. What have I done?
I have a long winter of cold and dark training runs ahead as I work towards 25 April 2009. And so, as I'm pounding the streets of Coventry in the cold and the rain, I merely ask that as you sit in the warmth of your room or office, you reach for that bank card and make a donation (no matter how large or small) to sponsor my efforts and support BBACT.
You can follow my progress (and pointless mutterings) by following me on Twitter: twitter.com/tracyplayle and I'll shortly be setting up a blog through which I'll share my latest updates, piccies that I've taken while out running, and my training data beamed from my iphone as if by magic! Through the power of social media you can come on this journey with me - but without the hard work!
Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
