Pole Crazy Mount Teide Trek 2010 · 22 May 2010

The AWF brings ordinary people together with grassroots projects around th world fighting to defend nature, the environment and communities under threat.

Story

*Mt Teide* is the third highest volcano in the world, at nearly four thousand metres high it is two and a half times higher than Ben Nevis! It casts the longest shadow in the world and at sunrise from its summit it is possible to look down on all the Canary Islands, as well as Las Canadas, the 12 Km wide crater left from the eruption of its predecessor some 30,000 years ago and  recently declared a World Heritage Site.
A Team of 6 Pole Crazy girls will be trekking to the top of the volcano to raise sponsorship money for a project being undertaken in Sierra Leone by Whale Nation (reg charity no 1076270)
The project aims to help develop Sierra Leone using its strengths in nature and community- rich habitats, abundant and diverse nature, village life, crafts, art and music. Eco tourism, micro financing and social entrepreneurship, conservation, education, alternative and sustainability technologies and ideas, and organic farming methods all being used as instruments of development, with implementation through teams of young volunteers from all over the world.

We plan to gain as much sponsorship as possible, all the girls will be individually raising money for the team and we also plan to raise some money with a charity raffle at our annual showcase.
