My story

As many of you know, Phil & Andrew's Mother, Anne, has been a lifelong sufferer of rheumatoid arthritis.  To put this into context, this debilitating disease, for which there is no known cure has taken its toll on Anne’s life.  For her, it has meant over 40 years of pain and operations to replace knees, hips, shoulders and elbows.  To say she is part woman part machine would be an understatement!

Arthritis is the single biggest cause of physical disability in the UK.  Around nine million people suffer from it nationally and it accounts for 1 in 5 doctor’s surgery visits. As such we intend to run the Great South Run (a ten mile run around Portsmouth in October!) in support of Arthritis Care, the UK’s largest voluntary organization which works with arthritis sufferers to help them manage this difficult condition.  We have set ourselves a target of £750 and we hope you will sponsor us to achieve this goal!

Phil - "I know I am regularly on the scrounge for cash for charity, but this is the one that means a lot to me.  As well as mum, my mother in-law Joy has also been under the knife having a partial knee replacement due to the big 'A'.  I promise no more begging emails until next year(!), but please, please, please help us get to the target we have set!  If nothing else, it will be worth your contribution to see us run 10 miles in a bright pink vest!"

Andrew - "The effects of rheumatoid arthritis on my mother and family life have been quite immense.  Thanks to the advances in medicine, countless operations and her own determination, my Mother has surpassed all early predictions made by Doctors.  That she continues to battle on is in no small way thanks to organizations like Arthritis Care.  Any contribution you are able to give will be greatly appreciated!"

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Arthritis Care gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor us now!
