About Princess Alice Hospice

Princess Alice Hospice is a charity providing free, high quality end of life care and support to adult patients, across an extensive community and within a modern purpose built hospice.

A community Princess Alice Nurse team supports over 800 patients at any one time. Working with General Practitioners and District Nurses, the team provides specialist care and support to patients, their families and friends at home or in care homes.

With innovative care practices, doctors and nurses on the In-Patient ward help relieve pain and control patients’ symptoms. A patient’s time here can give loved ones a break from the often-exhausting task of being a carer.

The Day Care team provides comprehensive medical and therapeutic services. Patients can enjoy a range of activities including art, music, and internet facility, or they can relax, enjoy the gardens and socialise.

The Therapy Team is essential to the Hospice’s programme of care, working with patients at the Hospice and with patients’ at their homes, providing physiotherapy, occupational and speech therapy. They aim to maintain a patient’s mobility and independence within the limits of their condition.

The Social Work team plays an important role supporting patients and their families with counselling, advocacy and advice on practical and financial matters. Additional support from a Bereavement Service supported by trained volunteers and led by a professional co-ordinator is vital. The Hospice Chaplain and dedicated volunteers offer spiritual support.

Research and teaching are central to the hospice’s work, helping to maintain excellent standards of care. The Education Department shares its knowledge locally, nationally and internationally.
