Improvement of Housing reduces Migration-Nigeria

In Igbeagu-Izzi poor housing is often the reason why specially young people are pushed to migrate. The "Housing Project IZZI" has developed massive lowcost familyhouses to improve the housing quality.

What is the problem the project is addressing?

To break the cycle of poverty the "Housing Project IZZI" starts its activity with the construction of 2 decent massive selfmade familyhouses. 2 families in need have been selected by the commitee of the "Housing Project IZZI". They get a loan from the "Housing Project IZZI" for the building materials which they have to repay in small monthly rates. The unskilled work has to be done and the skilled bricklayer as assistent has to be payed by the future homeowner family.

How will this project solve the problem?

1. Identification of the building plot, 2. Production of cementstabilized compressed earthblocks (laterite), 3. Platform as foundation, 4. Walls are constructed by the future houseowner with the help of a skilled bricklayer, 5. Roof, windows, doors.

What is the potential long-term impact of this project?

If this project succeeds these 2 familyhouses are the beginning of a program for the construction of about 2 000 homes for low-income families in need in the area of Igbeagu-Izzi.

From 04. 15. to 05. 15. 2009 the rough construction of the first familyhouse was constructed by friends of the future houseowner. It was almost finished. By the end of the year 2009 it will be completely finished together with the roof.
