In June 2011, we're taking part in the Bobby Moore Fund's Project Namibia to raise money for the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK, and we would really welcome your support.

This is particularly important to us as Sarah's father died of bowel cancer in January 2010.

The trip has two objectives - firstly to raise funds to help tackle bowel cancer, and secondly to renovate a remote village school in the Tubusis Settlement, which is located in the Damaraland region at the foot of the Brandberg Massif in the north western Namib Desert. We are aiming to raise a minimum of £8,000.

The project will involve a 10 day trip to the Tubusis Settlement to renovate the school’s facilities. All of our international projects are developed in partnership with the local population and this project will be no exception. The project will give the children and their parents the chance to continue their education in their own village, close to their families, rather than being obliged to move away. It will also improve the quality of teaching as it gives the pupils and teachers pride in their school that they would not have felt before.

Last year’s projects raised over £100,000 for bowel cancer research and left a lasting legacy for two wonderful local communities in Brazil and South Africa.

One in three people in the UK will develop cancer at some point during their lifetime, and sadly, like Sarah's dad Richard, this disease claims the lives of one in four. Every year 16,000 people die from bowel cancer alone, making it the second highest cause of cancer death in the UK, after lung cancer. Around 100 new cases of bowel cancer are diagnosed each day in the UK. But despite its prevalence so few people know or talk about this disease.

The Bobby Moore Fund’s mission is to save lives by raising awareness of bowel cancer and to fund research. Bowel cancer is a largely preventable disease and, if diagnosed at the earliest stage, over 9 out of 10 bowel cancer patients will survive their disease for more than 5 years.

We would be extremely grateful if you would be willing to sponsor us and help tackle bowel cancer. It's really easy to donate either by credit or debit card below.

Your support will enable the Bobby Moore Fund to improve the survival rate for bowel cancer. Despite increasing incidence, death rates from bowel cancer are falling but there is still so much to do!

Best wishes
