UPDATE: Well, I 'won' - just managed to write the 50k words before the end of November. In a manner which will be of no surprise to those who know me, I didn't do anything at all for the middle couple of weeks, leading to a very busy last week - I wrote over 30k in less than a week. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who donated, I honestly couldn't have done it without you.
Hi everyone,
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.
Firstly, a bit about why I'm doing this. It was nothing to do with charity, it was just something fun and interesting which would hopefully keep me out of the pub and maybe (maybe..) let me meet some hot girls :) Then I thought (actually, someone else posted and pointed out) that if I'm going to do this, why not do some good with it!!
So why Everyman. Well, it all starts in the year 2005, when Everyman asked Rachel Stevens to do an advert raising awareness of bollock cancer. Rachel Stevens!!!! What more need I say :) Oh, and the subject is also one close to my own heart, as most people are probably aware - I'm not the quietest of souls :)
As for the what I'm doing... I was introduced to a mad concept called NaNoWriMo by an old university friend. After an inital WTF moment, I began to see the fun that could be involved (plus I was bored - I was stuck in Waterloo, ON on my own) in joining so I registered. The task? Simple, write a 50k word novel (yes, technically that's a novella, but what the hell) in the month of November.
That's not so hard, you may say. Well, try it is what I say.
Anyway, the aim is to write 50k+ words by the end of the month. Not necessarily good words (December is for editing), but not "All work and no play make Jack a dull boy" either.
To keep me honest, I will be posting my novel(la) on a blog (euch): http://pulsenovel.wordpress.com Feel free to criticise, praise, or more likely ignore, as you will. I'll aim to upload my days work before going to bed each night, together with a word-count as counted by NaNoWriMo.
Anyway, that's what I'm doing, now what can you do. Well, sponsor me :) Or just donate some of your hard-earned (or not-so-hard-earned if I know my fellow infosec professionals) cash. You could offer up some cash for if I can hit the 50k target? Or for every word beyond the limit? Or just for every word, your call.
Apologies in advance for how crap the novel will be - it's my first one... ever. But don't let that stop you from donating even a couple of quid.
My bollock thanks you in advance,
Ian
