'WE DID IT!!' We climbed Snowdon on Saturday 8th August. It took us three and a quarter hours to reach the summit. We used the Pyg track to climb up and then to come down we followed the Pyg track and then went onto the Miner's track. The weather was kind to us. It was dry and warm but the cloud was low and so unfortunately we could not see much at the top, however the scenery on the way up was amazing. The mountain was very busy as many other people were climbing, walking, running and cycling up and down the mountain. We would like to thank everybody that has sponsored us and helped raise much needed funds for Homestart. We really appreciate your support and we know that many families in our local area will benefit from it.
Hi and thanks for visiting our Justgiving page. The five of us met during our first year at Queen Elizabeth Grammar school in Horncastle and have become friends over the last year. Each year, students at our school, are invited to apply for a 'Challenge Award'. The 'Challenge Awards' are financed by the school governors and the Parents Association.
We decided to apply for an award and our challenge is to climb Mount Snowdon. The award scheme has paid for us to camp near to the mountain from 7th - 10th August 2009 and we are aiming to do the climb on Sunday 9th.
It will be a challenge for us. We expect it to take us approx. 3 hours to reach the summit and then probably the same to come back down. We thought it would be an excellent opportunity for us to be able to raise some money for families and children that are not as fortunate as ourselves. The charity we have chosen is Home-Start UK which has branches in Louth and Horncastle. Below is a brief summary of what they do.
Through a network of more than 15,000 trained parent volunteers we support thousands of parents who are struggling to cope. Our families need support for many reasons including post-natal illness, disability, bereavement, the illness of a parent or child, or social isolation. Parents supporting other parents - to help build a family's confidence and ability to cope.
You can get more information from their website www.home-start.org.uk
We hope you will be able to support us.
Many thanks
Holly, Katrine, Joely, Ruby and Heather
