My story
In 2010, with around 100,000 subscribers, /r/atheism raised $50,000 for Doctors Without Borders.
In 2011, with around 250,000 subscribers, /r/atheism raised another $165,000 for Doctors Without Borders.
Doctors Without Borders is a Nobel Peace Prize-winning non-governmental organization aimed at providing critical medical care where it is most needed, regardless of any affiliation (be it political, religious, cultural, or any other demarcation separating people).
Doctors Without Borders has been the consensus choice from the /r/atheism community for its annual charity drive for years due to its excellent track record and rigorous dedication to stay above any divisive fray to concentrate on its charity work. Expect a forthcoming video from the New York office to outline the help our community has already made in two years of supporting this charity.
In 2012, with 1.5 million subscribers, there is no reason to believe that /r/atheism can't shatter some records as one of, if not the, largest coordinated efforts from a multinational secular community pitching it at year's end for the betterment of those less fortunate than those able to donate, for no other reason than we believe it to be morally right.
Please consider joining us once more as we make a statement about the ability to do good in the world without compulsion. Together, we can make a tremendous impact.
