Always one for a new challenge....next weekend I will be joining my very good friend Matt, his uncle bob and numerous other people as we cycle from Paris to London covering over 300 miles to raise money for the Alkaptonuria society.
Alkaptonuria is a rare genetic disease that only affects 1 in 250,00 people. The disease eats away at the cartilage in the body leading to severe disability. Most sufferers will be wheel chair bound and end up having replacement joints. Other symptoms include heart and respiratory problems as well as problems with the eyes teeth and skin. At present there is no cure for the disease.
I am helping to raise money for this charity as we have a friend whose two small children have the disease. At present they have no symptoms but it is only a matter of time unless a cure can be found.
Its a fantastic charity and will make a huge difference to not only others suffering from this illness but will also go a long way to raising the awareness of the Alkaptonuria Societys.
If you can spare a few £/$ to this great cause then i would be most grateful.
Thanks
Rach
