This is the story of just one girl from Vilpatti Village Project; the project we will be visiting after cycling 400km in the heat of South India.

Eswari and her brother are both attending Vilpatti Elementary School.  Her parents are going to work daily in the vegetable fields earning just Rs.90 per day but the work is too seasonal.  Her parents are illiterate but they want their daughter to be educated.  Unfortunately the pressures of survival often make it necessary for children to be taken out of school to support families.  In this situation Vilpatti Village Project admitted her in the sponsorship programme to complete her studies up to 12th Class.  She enrolled in the crèche in 1995 and in 2006 she finished 12th class and scored 836 marks out of 1000.  Eswari's long term goal is to work in an office and help the poor people.

It costs just over £20,000 to run the Vilpatti Village Project providing a crèche, school sponsorship and After School club.
