Story

When I had my amputations I lost the will to live but my twins Michael and Diana were only 9 months old they gave me a reason to fight for life.

In 1980 I was told that I had Hodgkin’s disease which I managed to beat after which I managed to beat after Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy. Life was great again, but it changed completely in 1987 when I contracted Septicaemia which led to me losing four limbs, legs below knee, one arm through the elbow and the other 100mm below elbow, the amputations were carried out at Hammersmith Hospital on March Friday 13th-which is superstitious for a lot of us, but I look at it as the day I was saved.

In the back of my mind I wondered if I would ever get back into the construction business or even drive, but my main concern was to get home to my family.

Well after weeks of encouragement from the Doctors and Staff and sheer determination on my part I was able to walk again and use my new upper limbs, albeit ‘Robotic’ it was a start.

Since these early days I have been very fortunate to meet my wife Fiona ‘my Angel’ who has helped adapt to my disability and with our two daughters Nicola and Taya become stronger.

I am a very lucky man and concentrate on inspiring people and giving hope to others. I am also the first person in the UK to be fitted with an i-LIMB on the NHS (which you can see in my profile picture.)!

I have tried skiing. I swim and keep very fit. I am independent as I can drive, I started taking flying lessons at Cranfield Flying School, Cranfield Airfield. I then decided to try Skydiving! Unfortunately as I had a heart attack in 2005 my doctor advised me against this. Luckily my wife Fiona and my best Friend Stan decided to do the Jump on my behalf.

I have now focused my energy on a new challenge  , along with my daughter Nicola we are going to cycle 13miles in the LEATHERHEADBIKEATHON on Sunday October 5, In Leatherhead Surrey. We are hoping to raise money for Limbess Association and a percentage will go to Queen Elizabeth Foundatio the organisers of the event.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Limbless Association will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support
